"As a public service and thanks to our holiday donors, PAWS is pleased to announce that we are offering FREE NEUTERING OF MALE CATS (Libreng Kapon ng Lalaking Pusa) at the PARC Clinic on Tuesday, February 26, 9am to 4pm.

PARC or the PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center clinic is located along Aurora Blvd, Katipunan Valley, Loyola Heights, Quezon City. (directions at http://parc.mefindhome.org)

Please take note of the following:

1. First come, first served. No reservations of slots. However, pre-registration by calling 475-1688 is required so that our veterinarian will know how many are coming and what time.

2. Cats must not be fed or given water for 12 hours prior to surgery.

3. Cats must be in secure carriers when brought to PARC. They will be placed in the same carriers right after the operation, and must be taken home by their owners after the operation.

4. This service is primarily being offered to families with multiple rescued "native" (philippine domestic) cats who cannot afford regular clinic rates for neutering.

Thanks to our Christmas donors for your generous donations - enabling us to offer this Free Neutering to families who need it the most. =)

Posters created for PAWS by our Spay / Neuter Head, Cattery Care Supervisor, Quarantine Supervisor, Website Designer, and Resident Graphic Artist (whew!) Heidi Guzon. That on top of taking care of her 50 rescued cats and a number of rescued dogs too. And running her own graphic design company. Isn't she amazing? Hehe.

This is Francis, my newest kitten. Found him at the same spot where I found Charlie two years before, at the side of a road in Teachers Village. He was around 2 weeks old and too young to survive in the streets alone, and I couldn't spot a momma cat, so took him home. He was dirty, scrawny, and flea-ridden, which meant he didn't have a momma cat for some time already. Another PAWS volunteer was supposed to foster him..but you know that feeling when you look into a cat's eyes and you know he's yours? :P Well that's how I felt about this little guy..so decided to adopt him. He's named after St. Francis of Assissi, patron saint of the animals. He's extremely hyper and hopelessly naughty but super sweet and a mama's boy. He's 7 months old now and just got neutered last month.

DINE WITH PAWS.mpeg (2.0 MB)

from the PAWS e-group:

October 4
is the Feast Day of St.Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and ecology.

All over the world, pet blessings are being held in honor of this man who spoke his message loud and clear: "Everything that has life should be loved & cherished because all emanate from the Creator."

Yes,  St. Francis was among the very first animal and environmental advocates. We are honored to be among those carrying on the torch of speaking up for God's creatures.

PAWS has two animal blessings this year:

1. PAWS Shelter - A blessing of shelter animals and adopted animals - October 7 (Sunday), 9am at the PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center, Aurora Blvd., Katipunan Valley, Loyola Heights, QC. (Map to PARC available at www.paws.org.ph)

Those who adopted from PAWS are encouraged to come (with their adopted wards)  to the PARC blessing at 9am. Fr. Ronald Macalle of the Parish of the Lord of Divine Mercy - dog lover and trainer- will conduct the blessing ceremonies for shelter animals, and adopted dogs&cats. Please confirm your attendance by calling Grace at 475-1688 or emailing philpaws@yahoo.com.

2. Eastwood City Central Plaza , October 7 (Sunday) 4.30pm - Procession, Mass and Pet Blessing. Fr. Bernard Collera, SVD ( of Christ the King Parish)  -  a cat lover and rescuer- is the Mass Celebrant.

We hope you and your pets could join us!

"Not to hurt our humble brethren is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission - to be of service to them whenever they require it."
                                           -ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI, 1181-1226

Trivia: Pet Blessings have grown in popularity since PAWS President Nita Hontiveros-Lichauco started it in the Philippines in 1995. It took  her seven years of pestering the parish priest of Our Lady of Mount Carmel to hold a pet blessing as a tribute to St. Francis of Assisi.
Finally,  Fr. Tom Shanahan relented and allowed a blessing of animals at the courtyard that year.
Total number of attendees back then: ten (including Nita and the priest)

Happy Feast Day of St. Francis everyone!

from the PAWS e-group:

We're happy to have actors Heart Evangelista and Jericho Rosales as spokespersons for the Philippine Native Dog (a.k.a. mongrels, mutts, "askals" - a term which we hope will soon evolve into "aspins" or "Asong Pinoys").

PAWS thanks Genesis, Penshoppe, JWT, photographer Wesley Villarica and stylist Frederick Sy of Parallax Studios for helping us with this campaign.

The campaign aims to uplift the image of native dogs, popularize the term "aspins" instead of "askals" and to encourage people to consider adopting native dogs and cats from the PAWS shelter.

The "See Beauty Beyond Breed" Campaign is dedicated to all native cats and dogs, as well as their rescuers -- those who have at one time or the other rescued an animal from the street, adopted from pounds or animal shelters, and those who have lent support to PAWS and other local animal welfare groups in fundraising drives and signature campaigns to help us continue with our work of saving animals from cruelty.

Our "See Beauty Beyond Breed" (SBBB) Campaign posters featuring Heart and Echo with PAWS' shelter dogs Brian and Chris will be seen in 111 Penshoppe store windows nationwide starting September 10, 2007.

Aside from the posters, we will also have PAWS donation cans and a video of the photo shoot in Penshoppe stores.

Below are the higher resolution copies of the posters. Please feel free to disseminate to your friends or post in your blogs or websites. As PAWS is volunteer-based, we depend on YOU to help us spread the word :)

Thank you!
